Blog

Here’s my guess:

Communication – nothing stopped him from communicating his vision, not even jail. He moved mountains of people with his communication talent.

Belief – oh, that man believed in himself and mankind, and he lived his belief system. Courage in action.

Strategic – he could connect seemingly disparate dots to create a movement

Connectedness – his vision was about all people – race, creed, country of origin was irrelevant

Responsibility – it was wrong to discriminate. It violated his belief system and sense of connectedness

These strengths (and others!) allowed him to form his dream, and shape his dream job.  He used his talents every day, all day.  It is what made him immensely effective and attractive (we are drawn to people who know themselves and are committed to their vision.)

Do you think he was ever discouraged?  Of course.  We all are, sometimes.  However, Dr. King was engaged in his work because it was what he did best – and he never stopped pursing it, even against awful odds and events.  His commitment to his dream created an experience for his followers that was irresistible.  He totally filled a gap in the universe!

I have two questions for you and I invite you to post your thoughts the comments.

  1.  Can you describe your dream job and the role of your strengths in that dream job? I’ve posted mine here – come share yours with us!
  2. What strengths in action to do you see in Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?  Add your voice here.

Let us be inspired by Dr. King.  Let us endeavor to leverage our strengths, connect our dream jobs to our day jobs with passion and hope, and fill a gap in the universe. After all, that is what we are here for.   What do you think?

      Thanks Per! Maureen

      1. I’ve given much thought to what I want to create and who I want to be in my life and work. In my dream job, I am collaborating, creating, and find meaning in what I do. I am able to act with authenticity and integrity. I know that I always have an impact, that little things make a big difference, every interaction is an opportunity, how I do what I do matters. My dream job is a place where I feel safe being human, where feelings are acknowledged, and it’s OK to bring both your mind and your heart. Relationships are front and center and the foundation of all te greatness that’s generated. I bet someone with strengths-savvy like you, Maureen, can see how my strengths align with that vision: strategic, empathy, connectedness, maximizer, and relator.

Ah Vicki! My new website has now been blessed by one of the people most dear to me in the whole world! Remember, I choose YOU to be the face of my work world – because you do give us so much with your strengths – strategic, empathy, connectedness, Maximizer, relator – and just general total awesomeness! :-) So you are already living your dream because you do make relationships front and center – and you have such an impact on those around you as a result. :-) Welcome back from Europe, my friend!

Gosh Vicki, can I steal all of your dream job comments? It is exactly how I feel and it seemed like you dragged it from my mind, organised it properly and said it beautifully. If we think exactly the same way, there must be an invisible movement in the universe shifting towards these wonderful ideals.
My strengths are: Activator, Positivity, Connectedness, Futuristic and Maximiser.

My two favorite Vicki’s (Vicky and her other sister, Vicki) – great to see you all out here. And I love the partnership in shifting the universe, giving it a wee nudge in the right direction! You guys are cool! Let’s keep supporting one another along the way – that is always helpful!
